My Top 5 Locations for Summer Photoshoots

Summer is a wonderful season of the year when it comes to photographs! It is a season filled with ice cream cones, a whiff of sea salt on the ocean breeze, and lots and lots of sunshine-filled memories. Naturally along with the season comes an abundance of weddings, engagements, family picnics and beach days, outdoor barbecues and parties, and so much more. All of these summertime events are worth photographing, even if only for yourself!

Whatever the occasion may be, it deserves to be photographed in a location that's worth visiting in the summer. Maybe you’re getting ready for your summer wedding later this season or next year, or maybe you want to go out and enjoy the beautiful day with your loved ones and capture memories meanwhile.

I should add that Vancouver BC has so many venues to offer in the summer, it can make one feel dizzy just thinking about it! While I have already discussed in a previous blog post some great picks for outdoor photoshoot locations, these areas in particular are perfect for summer occasions. Without further ado (and, might I add, in no particular order), here are my five favourite summer photoshoot locations.

1. Deer Lake Park, Burnaby

This is a great spot that combines so many different elements in photography. Deer Lake Park is full of gorgeous gardens, heritage buildings, a boardwalk at the lake, fields, and trees. All of these elements can be combined to create beautiful summer photos, whatever the occasion might be.

2. Osprey Village, Pitt Meadows

This location is all about textures and colours. Osprey Village is a quaint street with little shops painted in different colours. If you love seeing textures in your outdoor photos, this is the place to be. Textures include white brick, wood, ivy, and beautiful storefront windows.

The street ends at the Fraser River. There is a small pier, trails in the woods, a big field, and tiny spots in the trees with rocks and wildflowers. (Note: the featured image for this article was in fact an engagement photo session that took place here!)

3. Whytecliffe Park, West Vancouver

If the ocean calls to you, this is the place. There are awesome spots throughout this part of West Vancouver, from down on the beach to the top of the park where there are sweeping vistas and a great place to watch the BC ferries go by.

4. Shoreline Park & Old Mill Site, Port Moody

Rocky Point Park is a favourite go-to spot for photos. The downfall of this location is that with all the breweries that have popped up in the neighbourhood, finding parking is difficult.

Do you know about Shoreline Park? If you were to walk from Rocky Point to Old Orchard Park on the other side of the inlet, you will be walking through Shoreline Park. This location is much quieter and it is so beautiful. There are boardwalks, bridges over creeks, views of the inlet…there is a different view with each corner.

Continuing on the trail you will eventually come to the Old Mill Site. As long as the tide is not too high, this is an amazing place to explore, with concrete remnants of an old mill. You have to explore it to appreciate the photo opportunities.

5. Gastown, Vancouver

Taking a walk down the cobblestone streets surrounded by history is amazing. But, have you explored past the main street? Let me take you on an adventure.

I hope these present to you some awesome summer photo opportunities! If you think I’d be a great match for helping you capture your stage of life at any one of these locations, contact me. Let’s get together and talk about some of our favourite summertime stories.
